Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Medicine Specialty: Pediatrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Current RN License issued by the state Board of Nursing or current multistate compact RN License Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification and PALS certification Must-Have: Level 1 Trauma experience, ability to float to various units, experience with tracheostomy care and high flow oxygen Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing the care plan during the hospital stay and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have the ability to float to various units including acute care, surgical, behavioral health, medical specialty, and step-down units. Experience with infusion and ability to be first line for nursing skills is essential. Can be floated to the neonatal unit only for low acuity patients, such as feeder growers. Good verbal and written communication skills are required. Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is necessary. Some computer skills are expected. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is essential. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services is required. Must maintain good working relationships with other employees.
