The Materials & Process Engineering (M&PE) Department within the Hardware Engineering Center is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for performing advanced material characterization using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy and conducting mechanical measurements to support development, design, and failure analysis activities for a different range of product applications. This position requires critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail in executing procedures, testing, analysis, and documentation.

You will collaborate closely with design engineers, material engineers, and subject matter experts across various disciplines, managing and coordinating multiple tasks to meet schedule requirements. As part of a multi-disciplined team, you will contribute to solving complex technical challenges. What You Will Do

• Perform X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) measurements to determine elemental composition and material properties of various hardware
• Operate and maintain XRF spectrometers to ensure consistent and reliable results
• Analyze XRF spectra to identify elements and their concentrations to verify compliance with specifications and standards
• Evaluate parts and hardware through dimensional verification to ensure alignment with the TDP
• Perform hands-on mechanical testing using various laboratory techniques to evaluate material properties and design limitations
• Assess materials for compliance with specifications and standards
• Collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and subject matter experts
• Execute tasks with a high degree of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in testing, analysis, and documentation
• Manage and coordinate multiple analysis tasks simultaneously while adhering to schedule requirements

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field.
• Experience in material testing and mechanical inspection equipment (i.e. XRF machines and mechanical measurement devices (various gauges, micrometers, calipers, etc.)

Qualifications We Prefer

• Demonstrated ability as a mechanically inclined problem solver, with a proactive approach to hands-on technical challenges.
• Proficiency with instrumentation and data acquisition equipment to support materials testing and analysis
• Familiarity with military specifications and requirements for conducting material analyses
• Hands-on experience with general material testing and analysis using laboratory equipment.
• Ability to write clear and concise technical reports to effectively summarize analyses and test results.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, planning, and time management abilities.

The Mechanical Engineer II job is in Tucson, AZ and the position is onsite.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
