Badger Underground Solutions is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Drop Bury Technician to join our underground utility construction team. In this role, you will install and restore underground residential and commercial service lines—commonly called “drops”—for telecommunications and utility customers.

This is a hands-on outdoor position for someone who takes pride in clean, efficient work, can work independently, and respects customers’ property. Experience in telecom, fiber, cable, excavation, landscaping, or utility construction is preferred, but we are willing to train a motivated candidate with a strong work ethic.

What You’ll Do

• Install underground service drops, including cable and/or conduit from the utility connection point to homes and businesses
• Hand dig, trench, and perform minor excavation while protecting existing utilities and customer property
• Safely operate assigned tools and light equipment, such as walk-behind trenchers, vibratory plows, mini excavators, skid steers, locators, and hand tools
• Review work orders, locate markings, site conditions, and utility maps before beginning work
• Follow all safety procedures, 811/Diggers Hotline requirements, utility-owner specifications, and company policies
• Identify and protect existing underground utilities; promptly report utility conflicts, damage, unsafe conditions, and changes in job scope
• Install warning tape, conduit, pedestals, handholes, ground rods, and related materials as required
• Restore disturbed areas neatly by backfilling, replacing sod, removing debris, and leaving customer property in professional condition
• Take before, during, and after photos and complete accurate job documentation, material records, measurements, and completion notes
• Communicate professionally with homeowners, supervisors, utility representatives, and crew members
• Keep company vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment clean, secure, and in good working condition
• Assist with other underground construction work as needed, including directional-drilling support, potholing, conduit placement, and general labor

What We’re Looking For

• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Ability to work outdoors in varying MN weather conditions
• Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical work, including digging, bending, kneeling, walking, and working on uneven ground
• Reliable attendance, dependable transportation, and a strong work ethic
• Ability to work independently and complete a daily route safely and efficiently
• Basic smartphone or tablet skills for navigation, job photos, work orders, and documentation
• Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship

Preferred Experience (not required)

• Telecom, fiber, cable, utility construction, excavation, landscaping, or outdoor construction experience
• Experience with trenchers, vibratory plows, mini excavators, skid steers, or similar compact equipment
• Familiarity with Wisconsin Diggers Hotline/811 procedures and underground utility-locate markings
• CDL or trailer-towing experience
• OSHA 10, first aid/CPR, competent-person, or utility-construction safety training

Schedule

This is a full-time, field-based position. Workdays may begin early and can vary based on project schedules, weather, customer availability, and workload. Overtime and occasional weekend work may be available or required during peak periods.
