THE POSITION
As an Automotive Mechanic for the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), you take on an exciting role that keeps a high-performance fleet ready to serve communities across the Commonwealth. This position gives you the opportunity to work with advanced tools, tackle complex repairs, and support unique upfitting needs that few shops ever experience. You will apply your mechanical expertise to ensure each vehicle meets demanding safety and performance standards. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports vehicle readiness by performing specialized upfitting, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance across a diverse fleet. It plays an important role in ensuring that vehicles meet safety, reliability, and performance standards. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Vehicle Upfitting: Install specialized components such as kennels, cages, lighting, brackets, decals, and tactical (TAC) boxes
• Advanced Diagnostics: Evaluate drivetrain, steering, suspension, brakes, computers, and fuel systems to identify needed repairs
• Inspection Duties: Perform state safety and emissions inspections and complete required repairs and documentation
• Preventative Maintenance: Complete tune-ups, fluid services, tire work, filter changes, and other tasks for gas, hybrid, and diesel units
• Component Repairs: Replace or repair suspension, brake, electrical, cooling, engine, transmission, and fuel system parts
• Road Service Support: Respond to road service needs and assist with snow plowing during winter operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:

• You must be in possession of a current and valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
• You must be in possession of a validPennsylvaniaClass 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

• You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
