Perform a wide range of Nuclear Medicine procedures according to physician orders, departmental protocols, and quality standards.
Prepare, calculate, handle, and administer radionuclides and interventional medications under the direction of an authorized user.
Position, move, and assist patients to obtain accurate diagnostic images while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
Verify patient identity and confirm exam appropriateness before beginning each procedure.
Review physician requests to ensure clinically valid exam indicators are met.
Explain procedures clearly to patients and administer radionuclides aseptically using universal BSI principles.
Evaluate image quality and technical detail to ensure diagnostic accuracy before releasing images for interpretation.
Perform quality control procedures and confirm equipment meets established standards.
Maintain room readiness by ensuring rooms are clean, stocked, and prepared for the next patient.
Document patient radionuclide administration, quality control data, exam charges, and other required information accurately and in a timely manner.
Confirm proper patient and examination assignment on images before release and correct accession discrepancies when needed.
Notify appropriate personnel when after-hours exams are transmitted.
Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare providers to support appropriate imaging and continuity of care.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of human physiology
Knowledge of scintigraphic equipment, acquisition computers, processing stations, and hot lab equipment
Ability to learn and master new tasks related to image quality and radiation safety
Ability to communicate effectively and work with people from diverse backgrounds
Strong multitasking, organization, and proactive customer service skills
Sound judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in busy and stressful environments
Ability to read, write, and speak conversational English
Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
Ability to perform Nuclear Medicine procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision
Knowledge of communication styles and professional engagement behaviors with patients, staff, and physicians
Patient care and communication skills for infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
Basic clerical skills for filing, record keeping, and documentation
Independent judgment and initiative
Ability to assist with a wide range of departmental duties
Age-specific care competency
Ability to learn and use Radiology software such as Cerner , RadWorks , and PACS
Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures
Knowledge of Radiation Safety concepts, including time, distance, shielding, and ALARA principles
Appropriate technical skills in Nuclear Medicine
Strong active listening, reading comprehension, time management, science, coordination, monitoring, troubleshooting, quality control, and problem-solving skills
Basic EKG knowledge
Ability to function independently with little or no supervision
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Additional language skills preferred
Associate Degree — Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree — Preferred
No prior experience required. New Grads encouraged to apply.
Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required
Registered Technologist in Nuclear Medicine Technology (R.T.(N)(ARRT)) — Required
OR
Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) — Required
Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on the department or state. Please refer to the applicable credential requirements.
