Job Opportunity: Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist

Our organization is currently seeking a full-time Board Certified/Eligible Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist to join the Department of Pediatrics. This role includes a faculty appointment at our School of Medicine, which will be aligned with your training and experience.

Position Overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for both newly trained and seasoned clinicians/educators in metabolic genetics, as well as those with a broader interest in clinical genetics and genomics. Key responsibilities will encompass:

• Newborn screening
• Patient care
• Inpatient consultations
• Outpatient genetic clinics
• Collaboration in multidisciplinary team environments
• Teaching medical students, pediatric and neurology residents, and genetic counseling students
• Engaging in research activities

Protected time for research is available, and we encourage a focus on research initiatives. There are numerous opportunities for both intramural and extramural collaboration, as well as program development.

Clinical Practice Environment

The clinical genetics practice is diverse and extensive, providing a wealth of experience across various specialties, including:

• Neurogenetics
• Cardiogenetics
• Cancer genetics
• Dysmorphology
• Congenital anomalies

Our team consists of two full-time and two part-time geneticists, along with two per diem geneticists, four pediatric genetic counselors, and a genetic counseling assistant. A new multispecialty pediatric outpatient facility is set to open next year.

Laboratory and Educational Opportunities

We are in the process of establishing a cutting-edge clinical genetic and genomic testing laboratory to deliver comprehensive diagnostic services throughout our health system, serving the Inland Empire. This facility will include a PhD laboratory geneticist and a laboratory-based genetic counselor.

Additionally, our School of Medicine has recently received accreditation for a graduate program (MS) in genetic counseling, with its inaugural class starting in the fall of 2025.

Location and Facilities

Our Medical Center and Children's Hospital are strategically situated in Southern California, featuring the largest Level IV NICU in the state. We serve the two largest counties in the country, catering to approximately 25% of California's population.

The Children's Hospital is among the few centers in California offering pediatric cardiac transplants and ECMO services. We are also developing a Perinatal Care Center focused on prenatal diagnosis to better support high-risk pregnancies and infants with congenital anomalies diagnosed prenatally. Our facilities support specialized centers for cystic fibrosis, hemoglobinopathies, spina bifida, metabolic genetics, and craniofacial anomalies.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting base compensation for this position ranges from $252,000 to $278,000, adjusted based on experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity incentives and is subject to departmental compensation plans. Further details regarding compensation will be discussed during the recruitment process.
