Licensed Practical Nurse, Emergency Services - PRN Variable

Emergency Department Nursing Care
Under general supervision, plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care and functions within the organization, in accordance with established philosophy in the Emergency Department.
Variable shifts, 11 AM to 9 PM or 11 PM to 7 AM
Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Previous experience in hospital or clinical setting preferred.
- CPR - approved by the American Heart Association.
- Ability to demonstrate technical nursing skills and knowledge of nursing practices in Emergency Care.
- Basic computer skills; previous experience with EHR preferred (knowledge of Epic is a plus).

Essential Functions
- Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit.
- Initiates and implements patient education and care plan.
- Maintains acceptable standards of patient care.
- Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution.
- Creates a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
- In conjunction with the physician and RN, identifies discharge needs, participates in planning and completes continuity of care forms as appropriate.
- Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.
- Collaborates with Providers, Registered Nurses, and other health care disciplines regarding patient care.
- Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly per NAPNES guidelines.*Observation of IV fluid rate.*Observation of IV levels.*Observation and care of IV site.*Can discontinue IV's other than subclavian.
- Initiates appropriate emergency procedures within the scope of practice under the direction of the RN/physician.
- Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.
- Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand.
- Participates in planning changes and improvements.
- Participates in hospital safety and security programs.
- Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.
- Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
- Keeps the Nursing Supervisor informed of patients, needs, and problems on the nursing unit.
- Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment
- Works in a patient care setting where there is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials; and electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
- Fast-paced setting with rapid patient turnover.
- High patient traffic.
- Close-quartered and shared work space.
- Sufficient mobility to negotiate physical plant.
- Strength and endurance sufficient enough to perform physically for long periods of time without sitting (four to eight hours). May include: walking; lifting 25 50lbs with or without assistance; bending; twisting; standing; sitting; reaching; stair-climbing and descending.
- Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergency patient care needs in an ambulatory setting.
- Visual and auditory capabilities sufficient to read information and respond to patient care needs.
- Ability to work in a computerized environment that includes prolonged sitting and use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
- Cognitive ability to accurately observe, analyze, and interpret general and technical data both verbal and written to accurately communicate this information.
