Description: The unit has 18 beds, with plans to expand to 27 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2, and occasionally 1:3 during overflow situations. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS; NIHSS requirement has been removed. Effective 10/21/2026, TNCC will be required. Common diagnoses include critically ill patients with complex needs, sepsis, and acute myocardial infarction. Patients may have conditions requiring invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring. Experience with CRRT and IABP is preferred, as well as knowledge in ventilator management and titration of critical drips. The age population served includes adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. RNs are required to titrate drips such as Levophed, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin, and Insulin. Charge Nurse responsibilities may include overseeing nursing staff while not directly caring for patients. Hospitalists are available 24/7, while intensivists are not always present. Respiratory Therapy is accessible as needed. Telemetry is available, but there is no designated Monitor Technician. Shifts run from 6:45 am to 7:15 pm or from 6:45 pm to 7:15 am. The manager creates the schedule without a guaranteed blocked schedule. Weekend work is required every other weekend, with holiday rotations among core staff. Floating to stepdown or medical-surgical/telemetry units may be required based on staffing needs. Travelers will also float in rotation, taking on a full patient load when needed. Dress code requires solid color scrubs without embroidery or patterns. Fleece zip-ups in specific colors are permitted, along with solid undershirts in matching colors. Closed-toed shoes are mandatory, and specific footwear is prohibited. An abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist will be expected within 90 days from the start date.
