Quick Facts:

• The ideal candidate has 3+ years of current experience in a Mortgage Underwriting role
• Primarily handling Conventional loans, however experience with FHA, VA, USDA, or a DE Certification is a strong plus
• Strong knowledge of industry standard, trends and emerging tech/products
• This role has an expected salary up to $110k, with additional bonus opportunities

Overview:

The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for reviewing loan submissions to ensure that they meet Company guidelines and evaluate the loan in such a way as to maximize company profit and minimize risk exposure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reviews all items and conditions provided by borrowers and ensures they meet the required guidelines by utilizing internal and external (e.g., agency) policies and procedures
• Ensure that operating standards are met for underwriting and compliance by utilizing internal and external (e.g., agency) policies and procedures
• Review applications and all pertinent disclosures to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and investor requirements are met and upheld
• Monitor appraisal process to ensure value of property is accurately presented
• Analyze documentation such as credit, income, assets, and appraisals to make sound underwriting decisions based on this analysis by using internal checklist
• Review documentation within paperless system and ensure documents are properly classified and organized
• Make quality underwriting decisions while maintaining established turn-time expectations
• Review and clear conditions on all loans to ensure a complete loan package prior to closing
• Utilize proprietary and on-line tools, such as Lexis/Nexis, Real Quest, Mortgage Electronic Registration System (MERS), AVM’s, etc. to help combat fraudulent activity and ensure quality loan decisions
• Communicate with peers by sharing underwriting best practices and providing accurate, thorough documentation on best practices or other documentation tools
• Continually review underwriting environment, and suggest improvement opportunities to management
• Act as a recognized subject matter expert within the Company and partners with management on underwriting-related issues by providing analytical support, and counseling advice for their functional areas
• Special projects, as assigned

Background, Experience and Knowledge:

• 3+ years of previous experience in an Underwriting or equivalent role
• Strong knowledge of conventional and/or government loan underwriting and selling guidelines (i.e., Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, etc.)
• Underwriter designation certification, such as Lender Appraisal Processing Program (LAPP), Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR), or Direct Endorsement (DE) is a STRONG plus
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels, provide exceptional customer service and positively project the Company
• Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer
