The Laboratory Assistant position is included in a voluntary recognition bargaining unit (union), which may include union dues. This position is located in the Drug Testing Laboratory of the Common Pleas Court's Probation Department and is responsible for the direct observation and collection of urine specimens from defendants for illegal drugs and/or alcohol. Specimens are obtained from Probation Department clients and outside agencies. This position works closely with the Laboratory Manager to ensure that strict adherence to laboratory protocols, policies, and procedures are maintained. What you'll do Directly observe and collect urine specimens from defendants and probation clients for drug and/or alcohol testing. Process and handle specimens according to strict chain-of-custody and laboratory protocols. Work with outside agencies to obtain specimens as required. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to specimen collection and testing. Follow all laboratory policies and procedures to ensure integrity of test results. Collaborate closely with the Laboratory Manager to uphold standards and compliance. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. About you Ability to follow strict protocols and procedures with precision and consistency. Comfortable working directly with court-involved individuals in a professional and respectful manner. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a structured public sector environment. Nice to have Prior experience in specimen collection, phlebotomy, or a laboratory setting. Familiarity with drug and alcohol testing procedures. Experience working in a criminal justice, probation, or government agency context.
