Job Summary This role provides social services to assist in the rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation or parole. Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plans, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations. Responsibilities Case Management, Referrals, Recommendations and Assessment Initiate contact with the youth, family, victims, and law enforcement when referrals are received by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. Conduct home and school visits, obtain and review collateral information (abuse and neglect history, educational, mental health, substance use, gang activity, etc.). Conduct and document FDJJ screenings (detention, intake, suicide risk, etc.) to identify youth’s risk, needs, and protective factors. Formulate case management strategies based on assessments. Make service referrals and follow up actions. Make supervision and treatment recommendations to the State Attorney and other judicial partners. Complete screening instruments and reports such as DRAI, SRSI, pre‑post disposition, adult sentencing summary, progress reports, electronic commitment packet, termination of supervision. Act as the DJJ representative during court hearings, support Department’s recommendations, prepare and maintain current social histories, court reports, referral letters, testify when appropriate. Prepare affidavits/petition for Violation of Probation, request hearings. Conduct risk and needs assessment for all youth and supervise. Carry out face‑to‑face contacts in various settings and at non‑traditional hours. Assist youth in obtaining mental health and substance abuse evaluations and specialized testing, facilitate school and after‑school enrollment. Provide crisis intervention and coordinate services. Assist youth and family in establishing personal goals, discuss projected timeframes for completion, sanctions, etc. Respond to concerns, needs, and risks, staffing cases with unit supervisor, determine recommended handling of violations, conduct staffing. Participate in transition and exit planning, finalize plans for youth pending release. Enter data into JJIS, upload required forms, ensure accurate uploads. Familiarize with community resources, input to circuit management. Attend professional development trainings and meetings. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of case management practices, interviewing and counseling techniques. Knowledge of computer programs. Ability to make recommendations concerning the processing and handling of delinquent youth. Ability to develop case plans and communicate effectively. Ability to determine work priorities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community and judicial partners. Ability to make independent decisions based on individual analysis. Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to conduct and document interviews. Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience working directly with adolescents in criminal justice, social services or education. A valid driver’s license is required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Associate degree plus two years of experience in relevant fields. Certification as State of Florida Juvenile Probation Officer or related experience as volunteer/intern. Special Notes Must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications throughout employment. Position may require non‑traditional hours including weekends and evenings. All candidates subject to sex offender check, criminal background checks, drug screening, and pre‑employment checks. Legal Requirements At least 19 years of age. High school graduate or equivalent. No felony or misdemeanor involving perjury, false statement, or dishonorable discharge. Follow Florida statutes on background investigations, fingerprinting, and other screening requirements. Submit affidavit‑of‑application with oath as required.
