Locksmith

Skilled independent work in the repair, maintenance and installation of door hardware, also construction (rough and finish) of carpentry related systems using standard trade practices.

Ability to read and write and have communication skills necessary to converse with various types of persons. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work. Thorough knowledge of the repair, maintenance of locksmith and construction involving roofing, carpentry and concrete crafts using standard trade practices. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and to work from blueprints and sketches. Considerable skills in locating and correcting defects related to building structures. Must maintain valid Texas drivers license and insurable driving record. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Five years experience as journeyman (as defined in the dictionary) locksmith and carpenter preferred.

Construct as directed and maintain exterior and interior systems involved in locksmith related tasks in the district including but not limited to installation of door hardware, panic bars and door closer and carpentry work. Manages assigned work orders, maintaining material and labor costs applied to each job. Is accountable for supplies purchased or issued. Responsible for care and maintenance of assigned vehicles and tools. Responsible for meeting performance standards. Maintain a clean, safe and well organized facility and work area. Perform scheduled and emergency repairs and/or maintenance as directed. Always act in lead position in locksmith and carpentry related tasks. Carry out all duties in accordance with BISD Board of Education policies and administrative regulations. Maintain a high personal standard in the following areas: attitude, cooperation, dependability, judgment, initiative, self-improvement and as a role model for students.

Vehicle, various saws, routers, drill presses, planners, forklift, sanders, cement mixers, hammer drill, hilti grinder and hand tools, key cutting machine.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Heavy lifting with minimum floor to knuckle lift of 125 Ibs. Substantial amount of walking, standing, kneeling, bending, climbing, squatting some shoveling. Operation of a motor vehicle. Work outside and inside: exposure to hot and cold temperatures, and exposure to excessive humidity. Exposure to a small amount of fumes from silicone, glues and adhesives, dust, noise, solvents, grease and oil. Working with ladders, scaffolds and personnel lifts. Working around moving parts of machinery and electrical hazards. May be required to work nights or protracted hours.
