Medical Assistant/Patient Service Specialist

Position Summary Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the Medical Assistant/Patient Service Specialist will function as a member of the clinical and administrative team and complete assigned daily clinical and administrative operations to ensure smooth day-to-day operations in the physician practice. This includes medical/nursing support to provider staff in the ambulatory setting, prepping the patient and seeing them through the entirety of their visit, as well as some responsibilities of the Patient Service Specialist role. Position: Medical Assistant. Department: Patient Service Specialist. Schedule: Full Time. Responsibilities / Duties Rooms patients and prepares them for the provider visit. Take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, weight, height, respiratory rates) and enter them accurately into EMR. Record patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc. into EMR for physical. Obtain required consents, complete required forms as needed for specific visit types. Perform office testing and controls on certain in‑office tests. Perform EKGs as ordered and chaperone providers when required. Administer vaccines and medications as ordered by provider following BMC policies. Stock rooms and monitor expiration of supplies in exam rooms. Assist with incoming calls by answering, triaging, and routing telephone calls appropriately. Register patients in EMR and verify demographics and accurate health insurance information. Conduct eligibility checks to ensure insurance is reflected accurately. Schedule patients' appointments and appropriate testing as directed. Follow scheduling rules and direct schedules patient visits in other practices. Perform pre‑visit planning daily for all upcoming scheduled appointments. Perform outreach to select patient groups for patient care and quality and schedule specialty appointments and testing as required. Inform manager of all clinical or administrative supply needs or assist with ordering. Obtain prior authorizations and/or insurance referrals as per practice need. Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and collection of blood specimens for laboratory processing in the outpatient clinic, while adhering to proper patient identification and safety protocols. Conduct point‑of‑care testing and process laboratory specimens in accordance with guidelines. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes clinical instruments and equipment per infection control standards and maintain documentation for sterilization logs. Job Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent. No prior experience required. Preferred Education & Experience Education from an approved medical assistant program. One to three years of medical assistant experience. Phlebotomy experience. Certifications, Licenses & Registrations Certified Medical Assistant Certification. Phlebotomy certification. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong customer service skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently with little supervision. Compensation $17.79–$25.00 per hour, depending on education, experience, skills, and certifications.
