Registration Associate - Full Time

Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta is a leading children’s hospital committed to a patient‑centered mission. This role is part of the Patient Access team, responsible for ensuring accurate registration, billing, and insurance verification for all patient encounters. Job Responsibilities Communicates with patients, families, physicians, clinical staff, and insurance companies to obtain information and insurance verification, ensuring quality patient care and successful payment of hospital accounts. Interviews patients and families to collect complete and accurate demographic and financial information, ensuring all required questionnaires and forms are completed per government or regulatory agency requirements. Enters data into the system for registration, billing, patient tracking, charge capture, and reconciliation, working quickly to minimize patient wait times. Verifies insurance coverage and/or authorizations, explaining regulatory financial requirements to patients or responsible parties and collecting or posting deposits or deductible amounts as needed. Assists Patient Accounting by capturing accurate data elements to produce clean claims, preventing denials and delayed payments. Serves as liaison between patients and department staff, informing patients of procedures, delays, and answering questions to provide support and service. Escalates immediate needs to appropriate leaders or clinical team members when necessary. Ensures wait‑time communication by updating schedulers and patient‑information tools appropriately. Initiates and executes daily medical‑record maintenance, including creating patient charts, filing encounter‑specific paperwork, and maintaining correspondence via mailing or faxing with primary care providers or specialists. Provides release of medical information as required by law or policy. Performs administrative duties to ensure efficient daily operations, such as opening/closing procedures, ordering and restocking front‑office supplies, and handling mail distribution. Schedules patient appointments from faxes, phones, or other instructions, coordinating discrepancies with physician offices and enabling smooth rescheduling when needed. Coordinates all aspects of scheduling for procedures and provider visits, ensuring optimal use of resources. Participates in department meetings and may serve on committees for quality and service improvement. Assists supervisors or managers by providing support to teammates, onboarding new staff, and facilitating professional development opportunities. Pre‑screens doctor’s orders (scripts) received for new patients to ensure completeness and appropriateness of scheduled appointments. Presents case‑review materials for forensic interviewers or providers when required, and coordinates subpoena processes with the legal department to facilitate billing for expert testimony. Minimum Qualifications 1 year of experience in healthcare or related clerical, accounting, or customer‑service environment. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education may be considered in lieu of experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Preferred Qualifications College degree. 1 year of experience in registration. Certified Patient Account Representative (CPAR) or Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification. Experience using patient registration systems, insurance verification systems, and/or Medicaid portals. Skills and Abilities Understanding of and familiarity with medical terminology. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Word. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated arithmetic and word‑mathematical problem‑solving skills. Excellent customer‑service skills. Proven ability to multitask and work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Willingness to travel to support multiple locations or departments. Ability to uphold the highest level of customer service while covering any location. Shift: Monday‑Friday, 9:00AM – 7:00PM (flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays).
