RN PICU

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is responsible for delivering specialized nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients. This role involves patient assessments, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The RN will also float between the PICU, Pediatric Medical/Surgical, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as needed. Strong clinical skills, effective communication, and at least one year of PICU experience are essential for success in this fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU.
• Perform patient assessments, administer medications, and develop treatment plans.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Float between PICU, Pediatric Medical/Surgical, and NICU units as required.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 1 year of PICU nursing experience.
• Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity pediatric environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in Pediatric Medical/Surgical and NICU nursing.
• Advanced certifications relevant to pediatric critical care.
• Experience with self-scheduling and flexible shift management.

Special Considerations:

• Floating between PICU, Pediatric Medical/Surgical, and NICU units is required.
• No on-call duties.
• Expected patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2.
• Hospital is a Children's Hospital and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
• Free parking available; bike racks provided.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts per week.
• Self-scheduling is utilized; shifts can be worked consecutively or split.
• Weekend work is required on a variable basis.
• No block scheduling required.
