Principal Systems Engineer

Position Summary Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer providing support to the Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management Division (C3BM).Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (C3BM) has been tasked with delivering an integrated Department of the Air Force (DAF) Battle Network providing resilient decision advantage and enabling the USAF, USSF, Joint, and Coalition Force to win against the pacing challenge. C3BM supports execution in many different focus areas. C3BM’s main efforts are Architecture and Systems Engineering (ASE), Operational Response Team (ORT), and multiple mission integration teams such as Air, Maritime, and multiple acquisitions consisting of both the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) and Space.This is a full-time position located at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH and is 100% onsite. Responsibilities Duties to include, but not limited to:Provide systems engineering support across the acquisition lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, sustainment, and disposalTranslate operational and functional needs into technical requirements for Mission Integration Team (MIT) activitiesDevelop and support enterprise‑level architectures for the DAF Battle Network, ensuring integration and interoperability across systems and stakeholdersReview DoD architecture models and contribute to future‑state architecture designs enabling sensor‑to‑shooter connectivityDrive interoperability and integration across PEOs, weapon systems, mission partners, and joint/coalition stakeholdersCapture, document, and analyze current‑state and future‑state mission and engagement architecturesConduct capability and technical risk assessments, develop mitigation plans, and track progressSupport execution management strategies and transition validated capability requirements to acquisition teamsAssist with test and evaluation strategy development alongside acquisition and test organizationsDocument and evaluate Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) requirements and solutions across DBN programsIdentify preferred ICAM approaches, assess capability gaps, and support POA&M development and implementationDraft, maintain, and support execution of ICAM strategy documentationDevelop technical briefings, engineering documentation, reports, and acquisition artifacts for senior leadershipManage complex requirement hierarchies using tools such as DOORS or Jira, ensuring clear traceabilityCreate and refine System Requirements Documents (SRDs) and other requirement documentation guiding program developmentApply DoD frameworks (UAF, DoDAF) to system‑of‑systems architecture developmentTranslate complex technical specifications into clear operational impacts for military stakeholders and senior leadersUse Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (SysML, Cameo, MagicDraw) to develop and analyze models within Digital Engineering ecosystemsBuild and maintain structural, behavioral, and parametric architecture models defining system interfaces and capabilitiesConduct trade‑space analyses evaluating alternatives based on cost, schedule, performance, and riskDevelop verification and validation materials, including test matrices and verification plansServe as a technical liaison across government program offices, contractors, and operational users to resolve integration issues and drive consensusWork with operational and SME communities to identify capability gaps and decompose them into functional requirementsProactively identify key architectural decision points and deliver well‑researched courses of action aligned to cost, schedule, performance, and long‑term technology strategy Qualifications Citizenship: Must be a US citizenMinimum Required QualificationsClearance: Must have and be able to maintain an active Top Secret level clearance and have current SCI eligibilityPreferred QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's or Master's DegreeYears of experience: 20+ years of experience with 12+ years of DoD related experienceTechnical SkillsSystems Engineering across the acquisition lifecycleDoD and USAF systems engineering experienceSystem-of-Systems Architecture DevelopmentMission Integration and Enterprise ArchitectureRequirements Development and AnalysisIdentity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM)Risk Assessment and Mitigation PlanningCloud-based systems, including management and projection of cost and performanceAgile methodologies, CI/CD, DevSecOps, and DevOps principlesKnowledge of systems acquisition and program management processes as defined in DoDI 5000.02 and DoDI 5000.75Modeling, Simulation, and AnalysisTechnical Documentation and Executive Brief DevelopmentInterpersonal SkillsSelf-starter with the ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal oversightCritical thinker capable of identifying issues and developing practical solutionsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work effectively in a collaborative team environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to communicate technical concepts to senior leadership and stakeholdersAbility to proactively engage customers and provide well-developed recommendationsStrong organizational and leadership abilitiesAdditional InformationLocation: Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH and is 100% onsiteTravel: Travel may be required per the customer's discretion#LI-MK1 Company Overview Odyssey is a world-class technical, engineering, and integration company serving the warfighting ecosystem with airborne integration, ISR, C2, and warfighter readiness capabilities.
