North Adams, Massachusetts Emergency Medicine Physician Locum Tenens
Critical Access Hospital | 18K Annual ED Volume | 12-Hour Shifts

Rhino Medical is seeking an ABEM-certified Emergency Medicine Physician for locum tenens coverage in North Adams, Massachusetts , with the ability to flex to another affiliated Berkshire-area hospital as needed.

This opportunity offers the autonomy and close-knit practice environment of a Critical Access Hospital with strong diagnostic, consultative, and transfer support. The Emergency Department treats approximately 18,000 patients annually across a broad mix of high- and low-acuity cases, with about 20% of patients admitted or transferred for additional care.

Schedule & Coverage

• Variable days
• Three 12-hour physician shifts daily:
  • 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
  • 12:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m.
  • 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• 12 hours of daily NP/PA coverage
• Single-physician coverage largely limited to overnight hours
• Minimal call obligations
• Primary assignment in North Adams with occasional flex coverage elsewhere in the Berkshire region

Emergency Department

• 14-bed ED
• Approximately 18,000 annual visits
• Approximately 20% admit/transfer rate
• Broad mix of high- and low-acuity Emergency Medicine
• Critical Access Hospital environment

Clinical Resources

• CT and X-ray available 24/7
• Ultrasound Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
• MRI approximately 8 hours/day, 7 days/week
• Hospitalist support 24/7
• Respiratory therapy support 24/7
• In-house anesthesia Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
• General Surgery coverage for basic cases 4 days/week
• SANE-trained nursing support with TeleSANE services

Specialty & Transfer Support

• Acute stroke teleneurology consultation
• Real-time STEMI consultation
• Tele-crisis support for psychiatric patients
• Strong local EMS partnership with priority transfer capability
• Established tertiary transfer relationships for patients requiring higher levels of care

Requirements

• ABEM certification required
• Active Massachusetts medical license
• Appropriate DEA and hospital credentialing
• Emergency Medicine experience appropriate for independent practice in a Critical Access Hospital setting
