Executive Director, National Sales Leader, Ophthalmology

Merck seeks an Executive Director to lead national sales strategy and operations for its US Ophthalmology franchise, focusing on diabetic macular edema and age-related macular degeneration therapies. The role involves building and managing a large sales organization, driving product launch readiness, and partnering across cross-functional teams to achieve commercial growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of district managers and sales representatives
- Drive product launch readiness and commercial growth through cross-functional partnership and field execution optimization
- Translate corporate strategies into operational objectives, KPIs, and execution plans with regular progress tracking
- Establish performance standards, manage sales incentive plans, and provide coaching and succession planning
- Manage operating budgets, ensure compliance, and oversee commercial operations supporting sales execution
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Life Sciences, or related field
- Minimum 12 years in pharmaceutical/biotech sales, sales leadership, or commercial operations
- At least 5 years leading national or regional sales teams
- Strong knowledge of US healthcare dynamics, access, and reimbursement
- Track record building high-performing teams with strategic agility and business acumen
- Deep ophthalmology or retina market experience preferred
- Experience partnering with field reimbursement and account management in specialty markets
