STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION – The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) invites applications for a full‑time, academic‑year, tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall2027. Responsibilities for this faculty position include, but are not limited to: Teaching undergraduate lecture courses and laboratories in civil engineering and structural engineering and design. Teaching graduate courses and laboratories in structural engineering, design, and in their area of expertise. Supervising undergraduate and graduate‑level research. Developing and maintaining externally‑funded research. Engaging in activities related to service in the form of student advising, curriculum development, and shared governance. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Qualified candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. Anticipated hiring range: $106,000 – $117,000 per year. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department offers two B.S. degree programs with approximately 650 undergraduate students in the Civil Engineering Program and 250 in the Environmental Engineering Program. Both programs are ABET accredited. The undergraduate programs are consistently rated as among the best in the U.S. for non‑Ph.D. granting institutions, and the Department proudly supports active and highly regarded student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, and Air and Waste Management Association, among others. The Department also offers an M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering with approximately 50 active graduate students. Academic credentials required: an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in civil, structural, architectural engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered, provided the doctorate is awarded before or by the start of the appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills, and must be able to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students, and partnerships with key stakeholders. Demonstrated experience and commitment to hands‑on, student‑centered learning and teaching, as well as demonstrated ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary settings are required. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching are required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in university‑level teaching and research (commensurate with time since degree), experience with laboratory‑based instruction, and/or industry experience. Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment is preferred.
