About the Role

The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal officer and provide strategic, high-impact leadership in all legal, regulatory, and governance matters. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor to the Board of Trustees, the President, and senior administrators, with a focus on a wide range of institutional legal issues. Key responsibilities include overseeing litigation, managing external counsel, and proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks. The General Counsel will also be involved in contract negotiation, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and leading the development of institutional policies. The role demands a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school, admission to the New York State Bar, and a minimum of 7-10 years' legal experience, with a preference for those with a background in higher education law and related areas. The ideal candidate for the General Counsel position at the company will have a proven track record of legal practice, superior communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization. A strong commitment to the Vincentian Mission, which emphasizes service and community engagement, is essential. The role requires a professional with a diverse legal portfolio, including experience in litigation, labor and employment law, and complex transactions. Familiarity with non-profit governance, real estate transactions, and international legal issues, particularly in U.S.-Canada operations, is also desirable.
