Steel Erection Ironworker

Job Title

Robertson Construction Services is seeking a skilled professional for a key role in their team.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for:

• Reading and interpreting blueprints, erection drawings, and shop details to determine layout, dimensions, and installation requirements.
• Marking reference points and preparing materials and tools for installation.
• Verifying field dimensions and conditions before setting steel or miscellaneous metals.
• Erecting, aligning, and connecting structural steel columns, beams, and bracing using cranes, rigging, and bolting or welding methods.
• Verifying alignment, elevation, and fit of components using levels, lasers, and plumb bobs.
• Performing cutting, drilling, and grinding as needed for proper fit and connections.
• Installing metal roofing, metal siding, and insulation as part of pre-engineered metal building packages following all required details and specifications.
• Installing stairs, handrails, guardrails, lintels, embeds, ladders, canopies, and ornamental steel components.
• Fitting, welding, or bolting connections in accordance with project drawings and tolerances.
• Ensuring finished components meet aesthetic and functional requirements.
• Maintaining compliance with all company and OSHA safety policies, including the use of fall protection and PPE.
• Participating in daily safety meetings and assisting in job hazard analysis.
• Coordinating with crane operators, riggers, and other trades to ensure safe and efficient lifts and installations.
• Inspecting all work for alignment, accuracy, and quality before completion.
• Maintaining tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition.
• Reporting material shortages, equipment defects, or site hazards to supervision.
• Reading and interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, steel erection drawings, PEMB plans, and specifications.
• Translating plans into actionable tasks for the team.
• Identifying discrepancies or conflicts in documents and coordinating resolutions.
• Working collaboratively with a crew of ironworkers to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
• Communicating clearly with foremen, operators, and other trades to coordinate work.
• Assisting in training and mentoring less experienced ironworkers and apprentices on proper techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards.
• Contributing to a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.

Must-Have Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in commercial and/or industrial steel construction
• Strong working knowledge and experience in commercial and industrial interior and exterior steel erection and metal component installation including structural steel erection, metal building erection, decking installation, stairs, railings, metal siding, metal roofing, welding, etc.
• D1.1 certification from the American Welding Society or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to use specialized surveying equipment for layout and quality control tasks.
• Rigging, decking, chemical anchors, and/or certifications are required.
• OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Reliable transportation to and from job sites
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
• Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in outdoor conditions as well as working from elevated work platforms and ladders from various heights.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of multiple construction disciplines including but not limited to: sitework, masonry, demolition, plumbing, electric, or other construction specialties as they interface with steel components and their installation
• Familiarity with local building codes and regulations
