Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist

Salary: $95,373 – $143,059 annually Key Responsibilities: Review inpatient medical records for completeness, accuracy, and severity of illness (SOI). Identify opportunities for clinical documentation improvement. Collaborate with physicians, coders, case managers, and nursing staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding. Issue clinically appropriate documentation queries to support accurate diagnosis coding, DRG assignment, and quality measures. Perform concurrent and post-discharge chart reviews. Reconcile documentation discrepancies with Health Information Management (HIM) and coding teams. Educate providers and clinical staff on documentation best practices. Qualifications: BSN or Bachelor's Degree required Strong knowledge of: Clinical documentation improvement (CDI) Pathophysiology, anatomy & physiology, and pharmacology Official ICD coding guidelines and DRG assignment Quality measures and regulatory compliance Must achieve a minimum 70% score on the Clinical Competency Assessment (CCA).
