Certifications:
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider or an approved equivalent
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or
- Cardiovascular Credentialing International certification in cardiac ultrasound
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer or Registered Cardiac Sonographer from CCI within 12 months of start


Must-Have:
- One to three years experience as a cardiac sonographer
- Proficiency in performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, and Transesophageal echocardiograms
- Ability to operate equipment necessary to perform procedures and obtain optimal images
- Recognition of basic cardiac pathology
- Experience analyzing patient medical records


Description:
The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing transthoracic echocardiograms.
This role includes setting up and assisting with transesophageal echocardiograms and, under supervision, performing exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms.
This individual demonstrates increasing competency in the delivery of care to a primarily adult population.
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
The candidate should operate equipment to obtain optimal diagnostic recordings and utilize ancillary devices such as selected transducers and digital networking systems.
Routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment are expected.
Cleaning and sterilization of probes as well as leakage testing according to department policies are part of the role.
Maintaining a clean patient care environment is required.
Participation in quality improvement activities is essential, including evaluating technical quality and accuracy of procedure results.
Preparation of preliminary reports for review and interpretation by a Cardiologist is necessary, including comparing previous studies.
Preparation and instruction of patients pre- and post-procedure are key responsibilities.
Utilization of ultrasound contrast in accordance with guidelines and understanding potential side effects is required.
