Summary As a Quality Assurance Technician, you will plan, organize, and oversee QA activities. Develop goals and objectives that integrate organization and quality objectives, plan work for subordinates, and ensure proper data collection techniques and procedures for evaluation, inspection and audit programs, using related databases and spreadsheets to capture and catalog data elements for trending. Basic Requirements Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens (VA Policy). English language proficiency required. MSTs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3j. Experience and/or Education: (1) Experience – six months that demonstrates the ability to perform the work or provides an understanding of the work; (2) Education – one year above high school with at least 6 semester hours in health care related courses such as sterile processing, nursing assistant, hospital corpsman, or operating room and surgical technician courses; (3) Experience/Education combination – equivalent combination is qualifying for entry level. Foreign education: Must be evaluated by a private organization and deemed at least equivalent to U.S. programs. Certification: None. Grade determinations: GS‑07 Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing)‑Quality Assurance Experience – One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of fact‑finding and investigative techniques to evaluate work processes. Ability to analyze data and make recommendations to correct quality control problems. Knowledge of sterile processing operations, infection control procedures, and Joint Commission requirements to assess compliance during quality assurance reviews. Ability to compile information, evaluate facts, document findings, and prepare reports. Thorough knowledge of aseptic principles and techniques to maintain quality control. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and professional staff on the proper use of delicate instruments and equipment and resolve problems. Physical Requirements Work performed in various settings (decontamination, preparation, clean sterile supply, and other services). May be required to work in hot, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted areas. Potential for falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, and injuries from material handling equipment. Requirements include standing, walking, bending, lifting (occasionally up to 50 pounds), and dexterity and visual acuity for manipulating instrumentation. Duties Complete all application requirements detailed in the "Required Documents" section. Monitor all activities of the SPS, including operating room case cart management, cleaning/decontamination, sterilization, reprocessing, and distribution of RME. Follow bacteriological controls and principles of sterilization, packaging, and assembly of items for therapeutic and surgical procedures. Develop procedures to evaluate the quality of work performance and outcomes as related to the QA program. Maintain internal and external review systems ensuring overall compliance of critical, semi‑critical and non‑critical RME. Track and analyze required documentation for quality control purposes. Use qualitative analysis tools to prepare reports for trending, evaluate operations, and facilitate workflow improvements. Troubleshoot computer programs related to SPS operations and train staff on data input for cleaning, sterilization, biological processing, and QA programs. Collaborate with SPS management when deviations occur. Validate SPS policies on cleaning and sterilization per manufacturer information and requirements. Update the QA program annually or when manufacturer guidelines change. Work schedule: 07:30 am – 4:00 pm, 3:30 pm – 12:00 am, 11:30 pm – 8:00 am, rotating days for holidays/weekends.
