Job Opportunities Soquel Creek Water District is recruiting for an Accounting Specialist in our Finance and Business Services Department. Key Responsibilities This is a paraprofessional classification responsible for a variety of technical and clerical accounting duties requiring knowledge of standard accounting principles and methods and the ability to interpret and apply a variety of District policies and procedures. The Accounting Specialist performs a full range of duties with minimal supervision and instruction and is expected to exercise sound judgment within established guidelines. This classification is distinguished from the Supervising Accountant in that the latter is a mid-management position responsible for the overall management of the Financial Office. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Bookkeeping and clerical accounting procedures related to payroll, accounts payable and other standard accounting functions. Basic laws and requirements related to payroll. Basic business data processing principles as applied to financial recordkeeping. Standard office procedures, practices and equipment. Standard filing and record keeping systems. Skill in: Making accurate mathematical calculations and maintaining records and files. Using computer spreadsheet programs such as Excel at an intermediate level. Quickly and accurately entering data into a computer; typing proficiency to perform routine typing of financial documents and basic correspondence; operating a 10-key calculator with speed and accuracy. Ability to: Post, verify, compile and reconcile data. Process detailed paperwork in accordance with specific procedures and policies. Learn and apply District policies and procedures. Work independently and make sound judgments within established guidelines. Effectively organize and accurately complete assigned tasks while working within deadlines. Communicate information clearly and concisely. Read and write effectively. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff, vendors, and the general public. Observe safety principles and work in a safe manner. Education and Experience A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of the following: High school graduation or tested equivalent, and two years of accounting clerical experience, which includes some payroll responsibilities. Other Requirements and Desired Qualities Strong customer service skills and experience working in an office setting. Compensation and Benefits Compensation: $6,076 – $8,596/monthly / $35.05 – $49.59/hourly Health Insurance: Medical – We pay 90% premiums (base plan). Dental/Vision – We pay 100% premiums. Life Insurance: Term Life – We pay 100% premiums: 2xSalary/$200k maximum. Voluntary additional coverage. Retirement: CalPERS membership: Classic 2.5%@55 or PEPRA 2%@62 (District does not contribute to Social Security). Deferred Compensation: 457 voluntary deferred compensation plan.
