Job Description
This role oversees federal and commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in full compliance with contract requirements. The Federal Superintendent leads daily field operations, coordinates subcontractors and stakeholders, and maintains high standards of quality and safety across all phases of construction.
Responsibilities
- Manage all on-site construction activities from project kickoff through project completion.
- Oversee daily field operations for federal and commercial construction projects, including civil, concrete, mechanical, and HVAC scopes.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and project stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient site operations.
- Lead daily site meetings and clearly communicate project progress, issues, and needs to project management teams.
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are achieved.
- Review and manage requests for information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, and all relevant field documentation.
- Monitor project productivity, manpower levels, and material procurement to support timely and efficient execution.
- Ensure full compliance with project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements throughout the construction process.
- Enforce OSHA standards and company safety protocols to maintain a safe jobsite environment.
- Conduct regular quality control inspections, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Coordinate project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and turnover documentation.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience serving as a Construction Superintendent on federal construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience working on military, US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), or other government construction projects.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and field coordination.
- Hands-on experience overseeing civil, concrete, mechanical, and HVAC construction activities.
- In-depth knowledge of EM 385 safety requirements and their application on federal projects.
- Ability to interpret and enforce project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency in managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and field documentation.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and other stakeholders.
- Strong focus on safety, with the ability to enforce OSHA standards and site-specific safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills for conducting daily meetings and reporting progress.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Construction Quality Management (CQM) Certification preferred, especially for federal or USACE projects.
- Experience coordinating closeout activities, including punch lists and turnover documentation.
- Background in both federal and commercial construction environments.
- Ability to identify and resolve field issues quickly while maintaining project quality and schedule.
Work Environment
The Federal Superintendent works primarily on active construction sites for federal and commercial projects that may include civil, concrete, mechanical, and HVAC scopes. The role involves daily field presence, coordination with subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and project teams, and frequent site meetings. The environment requires strict adherence to OSHA standards, EM 385 safety requirements, and project-specific safety protocols. Work hours generally align with standard construction schedules, with flexibility required to meet project milestones and address field issues as they arise. The position involves working in various outdoor and indoor site conditions typical of construction projects, including exposure to weather, noise, and active equipment, while following all required safety procedures and site rules.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Randolph Air Force Base, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
