German Reviewer/Editor/Certifier, DOJ LSS Location: National Capital Region (NCR) – Washington, DC 20540 US (Primary). Remote / National Capitol Region / Various CONUS Locations. Job Type: Part-time. Exemption Type: Non-Exempt. Category: Contractors. Summary The contractor will support the Department of Justice with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services. Responsibilities include translating, transcribing, interpreting regulatory, legal, medical, scientific, financial, historical, geographic, and military terminology across a range of media formats. All work is legally sensitive and requires strict confidentiality. Required Qualifications Minimum five (5) years of experience within the past ten years in the required language, with superior English and editing skills. Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent test scores. Have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive). At least one year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department. U.S. citizenship. Knowledge of both English and the foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts, including colloquial slang and regionalisms. Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in both languages related to the Government’s roles and missions, and research/analytical skills for terminology judgment. Fluent writing in native language and professional command of non‑native language. Translation that is factually and conceptually accurate, preserving tone and register. Adherence to relevant codes of linguist ethics. Proficiency in Computer‑Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, especially SDL Trados Studio. Security Clearance Active Public Trust or higher security clearance. Travel Some travel may be required.
