Position Overview Director, Learning Options – 215‑day contract – Learning Options – supervised by Department Director – Certificated Administrator. Salary range $141,166–$166,575 per year with supplemental compensation for PhD/EdD, a monthly travel stipend, and annual reimbursement for professional growth. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or related field. Current Washington State Principal Certificate and/or Professional Administrator certificate. Successful leadership experience as a school administrator or comparable administrative/supervisory responsibility preferred. Five or more years of teaching and/or administrative experience, experience in alternative learning environments preferred. Valid Washington State Drivers License; WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance. Demonstrates flexibility, reflection, and sound judgment when responding to changing needs and challenges. Fosters inclusive, culturally sustaining school communities that promote belonging and respect for all students. Responsibilities Provide exceptional instructional leadership to a community of dedicated and collaborative educators committed to ensuring all children achieve success. Possess a passion for teaching and learning, depth of knowledge of Alternative Learning models, and a thorough understanding of instructional and intervention practices that support diverse learner contexts. Possess experience with Project Based Learning, Workshop Model, Homeschool partnerships, and/or microschool models. Leverage previous leadership experiences and best practices in dynamic school communities with diverse student populations, languages, cultural backgrounds, and socioeconomic conditions. Communicate expectations to staff, support staff performance, and hold staff members accountable for achieving building and district goals. Use emotional intelligence to create positive relationships and manage conflict. Design and implement a school improvement plan using a collaborative process that establishes achievable goals responsive to state and federal guidelines while centering student interests. Apply culturally competent instruction, assessment, and organizational development with an emphasis on Deeper Learning practices. Facilitate staff leadership, assess classroom instruction, and improve instruction and classroom management for dynamic learners. Apply knowledge of Washington state standards and performance expectations, including Common Core State Standards and the Teacher Principal Evaluation Program, to inform instruction. Maintain high quality teaching and learning across disciplines and programs, including hybrid online, place‑based learning, project‑based learning, and homeschool partnerships. Create a schedule that meets building and district goals, student needs, staff interests, and budget constraints while making tough decisions and communicating them clearly. Prioritize investments in learning that contribute to student achievement and understand the benefits of non‑traditional education and professional development. Maintain visibility at school events and throughout the school day, engaging the community and promoting the school. Maintain a safe learning environment by implementing effective and positive discipline methods aligned with state laws and district policies. Support a positive school climate based on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Promote a culture that values all people and recognizes member contributions to the school community. Show knowledge of Professional Learning Communities and the Four Questions guiding collaborative work. Lead or participate in district‑wide resource work, grade‑level teams, community meetings, and parent groups. Use technology to enhance teaching and learning, including Google Suite, MS Office, iObservation, and Skyward. Understand school‑related law, collaborative labor‑management practices, and accommodation procedures for students with special needs. Prepare and administer a building budget within fiscal guidelines. Know categorical funding rules and best practices to support under‑served students. Assist with the IEP process as needed to support the Special Education Program. Provide leadership for activities during and outside the school day. Evaluate certified and classified staff. Participate in screening, selection, training, and reassignment of school staff. Strengthen business partnerships and PTO and increase parent and community involvement. Perform other duties as assigned, including district‑wide administrative responsibilities. Mental Demands Requires regular problem‑solving, decision‑making, and managing diverse behaviors with a positive, service‑oriented approach. The position may involve extended hours and a flexible schedule. Emotional intelligence to engage with distraught or difficult adults and children is essential. Physical Demands Sit, walk, and/or stand for extended periods; approximately 50% standing, 30% walking, and 20% sitting. Perform tasks including talking, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, bending at the neck and back, twisting, pushing/pulling, lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, squatting, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Work Environment Primarily indoors with occasional outdoor work. Noise level is usually moderate. Contract 215‑day contract; responsibilities begin July 1, 2026. Compensation and Benefits Salary range $141,166–$166,575 per year.
