About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Surgical Specialty Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience required License: Current RN License issued by state board or a current multistate compact RN License Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association Must-Have: - Stepdown/PCU experience required - Acute care surgical floor experience required - Experience caring for patients with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, and NGT or DHT Description: Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients. Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments. Notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients. Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment. Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients. Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary. Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products. Delivers patient care competently. Interacts with family and patients in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at the time of discharge. Informs patients and families of hospital procedures. Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Patients will typically include those who are postoperatively cared for. The work environment involves caring for patients who may require stepdown care as well. Nursing ratios are typically 5:1 for surgical patients and 3:1 for stepdown area patients. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures is required. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques is necessary. Maintaining good working relationships with colleagues is essential. Good verbal and written communication skills are important. Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors is needed. Proficiency in basic computer skills is necessary. Preferred education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher from an accredited program.
