About The Unit The Gerber OB unit is a private-room, mother–baby centered unit providing care across labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum. The unit includes 7 private patient rooms, a 3‑bed triage area, a short-term observation room, and a dedicated surgical suite for C‑sections. About The Unit The Gerber OB unit is a private-room, mother–baby centered unit providing care across labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum. The unit includes 7 private patient rooms, a 3‑bed triage area, a short-term observation room, and a dedicated surgical suite for C‑sections. Nurses care for one laboring patient at a time, transitioning to one nurse for every two mother–baby couplets postpartum. Triage is typically staffed by one to two nurses. The unit supports day and night shifts and offers a collaborative environment focused on safe, individualized care for mothers and babies. Scope of work Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization and environmental health.
