Heavy Truck Mechanic

Job Summary The Heavy Truck Mechanic will play a vital role in ensuring proper maintenance, repair, and functionality of a fleet of trucks and trailers. Fleet includes tractor trailers, triaxle dump trucks, pickup trucks, skid steers, pavers, rollers, graders, reclaimer and other construction equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. Essential Functions Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of company vehicles and trailers. Conduct thorough inspections to identify mechanical issues and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Comply with all FMSCA fleet maintenance regulations and maintain all necessary records related to service trucks, including 5S standards. Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities. Collaborate with operators and other team members to identify recurring issues and propose solutions to improve performance. Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment within the shop. Order parts and supplies as needed, ensuring timely availability for repairs. Stay up‑to‑date on industry trends, advancements, and best practices to enhance repair techniques and equipment knowledge. Requirements, Education And Experience High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications in diesel mechanics, automotive repair, or related fields preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic working with a fleet of trucks and trailers. Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools. Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals. Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a NYS DOT medical card. Physical ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions.
