POSITION SUMMARY:

The Full-time Faculty facilitates meaningful learning of theprogram and course competencies while proactively supporting allfacets of the learning environment adhering to South University’smission and CACREP standards. The Full-time Faculty provideseducation through learning-centered instruction that will enablegraduates to fulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace. TheFull-time Faculty encourages a culture of learning that valuesmutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics aswell as personal and professional development. Incumbent mustensure that the South University philosophy is considered incarrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position:quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, andrecognition of employees; sound economic principles; andmaintenance of an environment which is conducive to innovation,positive thinking and expansion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides competency-based education which aligns with the SouthUniversity model of curricula as well as supports the SouthUniversity style of system delivery in keeping with CACREPstandards. Instructs the equivalent of 4 courses per quarter which can bea combination of didactic courses, tutoring, managing comprehensiveexams, practicum/internship supervision, or other activities deemedappropriate by the Program Director and/or Department Chair. Designs and delivers class instruction through the developmentof instructional plans to meet course competencies, to createactivities which support lesson objectives, and to deliver theinstruction as approved. Enables the achievement of pre-described exit competencies forstudent achievement and evaluation of learning by providinginstruction which fosters competencies and establishes studentperformance criteria and evaluation. Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing aclassroom environment conducive to learning and student involvementas well as effectively planning and preparing for classes andstudent success. Promotes student success by showing flexibility in style andwork schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching andstudents and engaging students in the learning process. Collects data for Key Performance Indicator assignments,submits quarterly student evaluation forms for all students, andparticipates in formal evaluation of students as indicated in theGraduate Student Handbook. Participates in faculty development each year as required. Manages the learning environment through keeping accuraterecords, submitting grades, syllabi, final exams, and other reportson time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendancepolicies. Contributes to a learning culture by participating oncurriculum and system task forces, supporting local campus eventssuch as orientation and graduation, and participating in variousother workshops and meetings. Relates professional/life/industry experience to learning bythe continuation of professional/technical skills development, theintroduction of industry perspective into courses, and the activeawareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities. Other responsibilities as determined by the Campus Dean ofAcademic Affairs and Retention or Campus Director, and DepartmentChair/College Dean.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Earned doctoral degree in a counselor education program,preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or a related doctoraldegree with prior experience as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013. Experience: A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as instructor of record inmaster’s and/or doctorate-level clinical mental health counselinginstruction in a post-secondary or college institution. Membership in a professional association tied to the counselingprofession. Shows evidence of sustained professional development andrenewal activities related to counseling and evidence ofprofessional service and advocacy in counseling. Ability to read, understand, write, interpret, and implementaccreditation criteria and state agency regulations. Ability to teach in a manner that meets CACREP standards whileimplementing real world and current scenarios to discuss counselingtheories and standards in a manner that informs and educates butdoes not engender classroom conflict. Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees,students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic orbusiness community. Ability to effectively present information to faculty, academicand campus leaders, university leaders, and public groups. Ability to develop and complete projects without continueddirect supervision. Experience with computerized administrative systems. Proficientwith the use of standard office applications on personalcomputers. Other requirements specific to the discipline.
