Athletic Trainer

Salary Range $60,000 - $66,000 Annually Job Summary Provide on‑site athletic training services at games and practices, conduct and document evaluation following injury, and provide direct services to student‑athletes. Work with the Athletic Department and coaches to monitor the health of student‑athletes. Work collaboratively with the Mid-Pacific athletic training staff, assist the Head Athletic Trainer in maintaining the athletic training room, equipment, and supplies, and conduct training for coaches and student‑athletes as needed. Work a flexible schedule to attend games and practice sessions as scheduled. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide athletic training services to student‑athletes at assigned games and practice sessions. Conduct and document evaluation following injuries and provide direct services in emergency first‑aid care. Work closely with student‑athlete private physicians as necessary for injury rehabilitation. Maintain injury and treatment documentation while remaining compliant with HIPAA guidelines. Create statistical reports of injuries and identify areas for improvement to reduce student injury incidence. Work closely with the Athletic Department and coaches to monitor the health of all student‑athletes. Assist in maintaining the athletic training room, inventory of equipment, and supplies. Conduct training for student‑athletes and coaches as needed. Counsel and advise student‑athletes and coaches on prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment of specific injuries and on other matters that may be pertinent to them. Disseminate information regarding injury prevention techniques and equipment selection/use for students, parents, physicians, coaches, and staff. May be required to travel with teams for state tournaments, pre‑season tournaments on neighboring islands or out of state. Collaborate with the athletic training staff, assist with practice and event coverage so that sports with the highest risk of injury are covered. Communicate the schedule as needed. Work with school nurses, the athletic department to review student health forms for information that may affect athletic participation. Maintain all athletic injury reports for all sports and student‑athletes. Attend athletic department meetings as needed. Maintain regular and predictable attendance at work. Provide in‑person support and service during regular business hours (staff). Perform other duties as assigned. School Safety Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace. Comply with instructions given for personal safety and the safety and health of others, by adhering to safe work procedures. Take reasonable care to ensure personal safety and the safety and health of others. Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, to supervisor and Human Resources. Do not place others at risk by any act or omission, or willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment. Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors. Identify, assess when necessary, and control hazards within area of responsibility. Ensure equipment and supplies are properly maintained. Maintain knowledge of relevant safety laws. Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child‑protective services, and Human Resources. Qualifications and/or Experience Degree in Athletic Training, Physical Education or Health‑related field. Certification in National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) by Board of Certification. CPR/First Aid/AED certification and willingness to obtain CPR Instructor certification. State of Hawaii Athletic Trainer Registration. Excellent judgment and critical‑thinking skills and ability to make decisions under pressure. Ability to develop and modify treatment and rehabilitation programs. Good interpersonal skills to relate well with students, parents, coaches, and other school staff. Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, holidays, weekends on a regular basis to attend scheduled practices and games. Ability to maintain required certifications. Other Skills A qualified person will possess the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, Equipment and Facilities Manager, Pool Manager, Athletic Office Administrative Assistant, coaching staff and maintenance staff, faculty, student‑athletes, parents, and other members of the Mid‑Pacific athletic community. Communication will include phone, text, email, fax, and face‑to‑face conversations. The person must be well organized, meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and be a positive role model with the highest level of sportsmanlike behavior at all times. Work Schedule This is a full‑time, in‑person, 12‑month position that includes responsibilities during summer and scheduled school breaks. Regular work hours are Monday‑Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but hours may vary based on the athletic calendar and departmental needs. Athletic trainers are expected to cover practices, competitions, tournaments, and other athletic events, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Flexibility in scheduling is essential to support the health, safety and well‑being of student‑athletes throughout the year. Physical Demands Campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres requiring frequent walking, uphill and stairs. The employee must talk and hear, sit, use hands and fingers, handle keys on a keyboard, stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 30‑50 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision. Mental Demands Must frequently problem‑solve, make decisions, interpret data, organize, speak, write, plan, and communicate clearly on a daily basis. Equipment Use Telephone, computer, iPad – frequently. Copier, printers, and other hardware – occasionally. Working Conditions Indoor – frequently.
