Assistant Chess Instructor - Fall

Location Pottstown, PA. (Must reside or be willing to relocate to the area; no relocation assistance is provided.) About the Program Chess Wizards is looking for enthusiastic, reliable Assistant Instructors for our after‑school enrichment program to teach chess to elementary students. The role is scheduled for the Fall season, with sessions starting late summer/early fall. Why Join Us? Competitive Pay: $30–$35 per class (≈1.5 hours per class). Flexible Hours: Minimum 1 class up to 5 per week, weekday afternoons (2:00–5:00 PM). Travel Compensation: Mileage reimbursement for trips >15 miles one way. Skill Development: Hands‑on teaching experience with a supportive team. What You’ll Do Assist the Chess Instructor in setting up and managing a class of 15‑22 elementary students. Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group support to practice piece movements and understand basic concepts. Support classroom activities, keep students engaged, and reinforce positive behavior. Follow the structured curriculum and promote good sportsmanship. Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity. Encourage problem‑solving, creativity, and critical thinking. Follow school safety protocols, including supervision during arrival, dismissal, and in‑class activities. Travel to local school sites for each session. Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students. What We’re Looking For Genuine interest in working with elementary students. Experience in teaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or similar is a plus. Ability to follow direction, support classroom management, and create interactive sessions. Professional, positive, and kid‑friendly demeanor. Strong desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship. Solid grasp of chess fundamentals – able to explain piece movement, basic strategy, and simple tactics in an age‑appropriate way. Ability to connect chess problem solving to real life. Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations. Availability on weekday afternoons between 2:00 and 5:00 PM – able to teach 1–5 classes per week. Commitment to implementing school safety protocols and strong record of reliability. Strong punctuality and time‑management skills.
