Position Summary

The Associate Video Producer and Editor will support Pew Research Center's video strategy by producing and editing engaging short-form video content across platforms. Working alongside the Video Producer and Editor and under the direction of the Head of Video, this role moves fluidly between writing, editing, and motion graphics depending on what a project needs, bringing it to life in Premiere and After Effects. With particular strength in reading a chart for its story, and turning static data into motivated, on-brand movement.

This is a term-limited, grant-funded position expected to extend two years.

Primary Responsibilities

Production, Editing, and Animation (70%)

• Produce and edit video content for Pew Research Center's website and social media platforms.

• Assist to develop video concepts aligned with research releases, taking individual projects from scripting through final delivery in collaboration with research teams, designers, social media teams, and audience experts.

• Use motion graphics templates and create simple animations that turn research findings into clear, compelling visual moments.

• Manage post-production workflows including editing, sound mixing, color correction, captioning, and platform-specific formatting, ensuring optimization and accessibility across distribution channels.

• Manage timelines and deliverables on assigned projects to ensure timely publication.

• Ensure video content aligns with Pew Research Center's editorial standards, brand guidelines, and commitment to nonpartisanship.

Data Storytelling & Motion Graphics (20%)

• Translate research data into social-friendly, visually driven stories, finding the storytelling angle inside a dataset and building animation around it.

• Experiment with visual styles for data-driven storytelling that performs well on short-form, social-native platforms.

Collaboration and Workflow (10%)

• Partner with research, design, digital, and audience teams to translate research into engaging video content, adjusting your process to fit stakeholders who range from video-fluent to first-timers.

• Serve as an approachable creative resource to colleagues who don't work in video day-to-day.

Education/Training/Experience

• B.A. or equivalent professional experience.

• 3–5 years of experience producing and editing short-form video content.

• Demonstrated ability to translate research findings into clear, accurate, and engaging visual narratives.

• Strong proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.

• Experience writing scripts that uphold editorial standards for accuracy, clarity, and nonpartisanship, even under tight production timelines.

• Solid producing skills: ability to take video projects from concept through delivery, managing timelines and deliverables to meet deadlines.

• Sound editorial judgment on framing, word choice, and imagery, in keeping with Pew Research Center's standard of nonpartisanship.

FLSA Status: Exempt

The typical starting salary for this position is $75,000.

Hybrid Work Schedule: Pew Research Center staff are required to be present in the Center’s Washington, D.C., office three core days weekly (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Staff may work virtually from remote locations on other days in a typical work week.
