Civilian Paramedic
The Civilian Paramedic serves as the principal hands-on labor in performing duties in both emergency and non-emergency situations related to emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, advanced life support medical care, and emergency management delivery.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Responds to an emergency based on dispatch instructions.
2. Drives PFT Ambulances and pool vehicles in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, and department rules and regulations.
3. Dons and doffs the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with department standard operating guidelines.
4. Reports to the Incident Commander for assignment of duties and maintains the appropriate communications and accountability throughout the incident.
5. Assists with determining the best route in responding to all emergent and non-emergent calls.
6. Ensures proper operational status of assigned apparatus equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) before, during, and after an incident.
7. Implements and utilizes the Incident Command System.
8. Maintains familiarization with the response area.
9. Properly uses department communication technologies (radio, phone, and computer).
10. Climbs multiple flights of stairs while carrying equipment, or a patient.
11. Provides patient care to patients entrapped in a motor vehicle or machinery.
12. Establishes scene safety zones.
13. Isolates and secures energy sources.
14. Conducts CO atmospheric monitoring of the environment.
15. Performs forcible entry operations.
16. Assesses, triages, and treats victims at an incident scene within the scope of one's certification and/or licensures.
17. Establishes medical, triage, rehabilitation, or other sectors as assigned by the Incident Commander.
18. Packages and transports victims to a local medical facility.
19. Communicates with victims, family members, by-standers, and members of the public at the scene of an incident.
20. Cleans, inspects, and maintains all emergency response equipment.
21. Maintains department equipment, apparatus, and facilities and effectively communicates problems or concerns with such to superior officers and/or maintenance personnel.
22. Conducts daily inspections of all EMS equipment.
23. Checks drug expiration dates monthly.
24. Participates in all required department training, meetings, and activities.
25. Completes all required written and/or electronic communications.
26. Complies with all department safety guidelines while performing emergency and nonemergency functions.
27. Complies with all department rules and regulations, standard operating guidelines, and Town policies, as applicable.
28. Presents programs to the community on safety, medical and fire prevention topics.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); The following certifications are required: Licensed as a Paramedic, BLS CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are required.

- Computer software skills required to operate all applicable PFT computer programs.
- A working knowledge of structure and function of the Fire Territory, local and county governments, local, state and federal laws effective employment practices, budgeting, funding, and emergency service organizations.
- A working knowledge of all Fire Territory policies, procedures, rules and regulations is required.
- A comprehensive knowledge of the geography of the Town and County is required.

- Budgeting, purchasing, and planning procedures.
- Emergency vehicle operations.
- Response areas.
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws governing the operation of department vehicles.

- Current Hendricks Regional Health Emergency Medical Services (EMS) protocols.
- Haz-Mat operations.
- The ability to operate all Fire Territory EMS and pool vehicles are required.
