Grants Management Specialist

Job Summary

This position is located in the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE), Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice. ONSE is responsible for the coordination of violence prevention strategy and programs in the District of Columbia (D.C.) with a focus on utilizing public health approaches to respond to and prevent violence.

This position functions as a Grants Management Specialist responsible for administering grants/local funding from award to close out, applying appropriate management controls, and keeping abreast of changes in policies, procedures, or requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administers grants/local funding from award to close out, applying appropriate management controls and keeping abreast of changes in policies, procedures, or requirements. Manages specific grants/local funds, as assigned, that support violence prevention efforts. Manages the awarding and administering of sub-grants or contracts. Reviews and evaluates grant recipients' plans and projects to ensure alignment with the goals and priorities of the ONSE, and in compliance with District and Federal requirements.

Monitors grantees through site visits and telephone contacts, completes and reviews financial reports, compares actual progress with expectations, and initiates corrective actions where necessary. Seeks Federal funding opportunities to be serviced through District Government agencies and community-based organizations. Provides technical assistance to grant recipients, including small non-profits and community-based organizations, working on violence prevention initiatives, as required by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Education

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is the experience that is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Tour of Duty : 8:30 am 5:00 pm; (Hours of work will vary as required by the needs of the program to include split days off and fluctuating tour of duty, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.)

Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-1109-13

Promotion Potential : No known promotion potential.

Duration of Appointment : Career Service Permanent.

Collective Bargaining Unit : This position is not in a collective bargaining unit.

Position Designation : The incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability Security Sensitive.


Residency Preference: Applicants claiming Residency Preference will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
