Role Description The Medical Billing Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Derry, NH. This position is responsible for accurately processing patient claims, including reviewing encounter documentation, assigning appropriate ICD-10 codes, and submitting claims to insurance carriers and Medicare. Day-to-day tasks include following up on unpaid claims, resolving denials, verifying insurance coverage, and ensuring compliance with payer guidelines and practice policies. The specialist will communicate with patients and payers regarding balances and billing questions, maintain organized records, and collaborate with clinical and front-desk staff to support a smooth revenue cycle. This role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and regulatory compliance. Qualifications Strong knowledge of medical terminology and ophthalmology-related procedures. Proficiency in ICD-10 coding and accurate claim documentation. Experience working with commercial insurance plans and payer requirements. Understanding of Medicare billing rules, policies, and reimbursement guidelines. Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve denials and billing discrepancies. Prior experience in medical billing, preferably in an eye care or specialty practice. Familiarity with practice management and electronic health record (EHR) systems. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage high claim volumes. Effective written and verbal communication skills and a professional, patient-centered approach.
