About the Opportunity

A well-established boutique accounting and advisory firm on Long Island is seeking a highly experienced Senior Tax Manager to join its tax practice. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity focused heavily on high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and complex personal and business tax matters .

The ideal candidate will have 15–20+ years of public accounting experience and be comfortable serving as a trusted advisor to sophisticated clients. The position is particularly well suited for someone who enjoys the environment of a smaller firm, where they can maintain direct client relationships, work closely with Partners, and have significant ownership over their engagements.

The firm currently supports approximately 14 high-net-worth family office relationships , making this role highly focused on complex, personalized tax planning and compliance rather than high-volume tax preparation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage tax compliance and planning for high-net-worth individuals, families, and family offices .
• Prepare and review complex 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, 706, and 709 returns as applicable.
• Oversee tax engagements from planning and preparation through review and completion.
• Serve as a primary tax advisor to family office and high-net-worth clients.
• Develop and implement sophisticated tax planning strategies involving investments, closely held businesses, trusts, estates, and wealth transfer.
• Review complex individual and business tax returns and related workpapers.
• Coordinate with attorneys, financial advisors, investment professionals, and other outside advisors serving family office clients.
• Assist with estate, gift, trust, and succession planning matters.
• Monitor federal, state, and local tax developments and communicate relevant changes to clients.
• Handle tax notices, examinations, and other tax authority correspondence when necessary.
• Review quarterly and annual tax projections and estimated tax requirements.
• Identify opportunities for additional tax and advisory services.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level tax professionals.
• Work directly with Partners on complex client matters and firm-level tax initiatives.

Ideal Candidate

• 15–20+ years of public accounting tax experience .
• Significant experience working with high-net-worth individuals and family offices .
• Strong background in individual and closely held business taxation.
• Experience with complex partnership, S corporation, trust, estate, and gift tax matters.
• Strong tax planning and technical research capabilities.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Excellent client communication and relationship-management skills.
• Comfortable working directly with sophisticated clients and their professional advisors.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex engagements.
• Experience mentoring and developing tax staff.
• Ability to work independently within a small-firm environment .

Compensation

Competitive base salary commensurate with 15–20+ years of experience , with the final package dependent on technical expertise, HNW/family-office experience, CPA status, and overall fit.

Target range: approximately $160,000–$200,000+ , depending on the candidate's background and level of responsibility.
