Job Summary Position Type: Student Support Services/School Nurse Job Title: Certified School Nurse (CSN) Start Date: As-Needed, starting August 2025 Location: Chambersburg, PA School: Corpus Christi Catholic School FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Principal Nature of Position The Certified School Nurse coordinates, collaborates, and plans for the school’s health program, ensuring compliance with the Pennsylvania School Code, Diocesan Policies, and the PA Department of Health Division of School Health Regulations. The role involves providing direct services to students and promoting optimal health and safety throughout the school community. Duties Develops and maintains a comprehensive school health services program for students, following the guidelines of the PA School Code, PA DOH Regulations, the Division of School Health guidelines, PA DOE Regulations, and diocesan policies. Assists school administrators, physicians, and dentists in planning and organizing the school health program. Consults on policy and procedure development, and schedules dental and physical exams. Provides up-to-date information to school personnel on growth and development patterns, first aid practice, accident prevention, and communicable disease regulations. Assists in evaluating health teaching content and sourcing information. Uses collected data to plan and evaluate the school health program. May serve on district advisory health councils. Ensures required reports to the diocese, PA Department of Health, and PA Department of Education are prepared and forwarded. Provides direct services to students, using the nursing process to deliver care in accordance with medical practice, nursing standards, statutes, and regulations. Performs and/or oversees mandated screenings, completing referrals and follow-ups where applicable. Manages acute and chronic disease and implements communicable disease control policies in collaboration with the PA Department of Health. Provides first aid for illness or injury, documenting nursing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Establishes and updates health care plans for students with special health care needs. Reviews and monitors student immunization status, making appropriate referrals for up-to-date immunizations. Provides health teaching and counseling. Maintains comprehensive health records for each child and school nursing services. Interprets individual students' health needs for parents and teachers, assisting families in utilizing community resources. Administers medications and performs procedures per physician orders, ensuring compliance with regulations. Informs teachers of health conditions that may affect behavior, appearance, or scholastic performance. Facilitates a coordinated care system for students. Collaborates with agencies inside and outside the school community to ensure continuity of care, coordinating private medical and dental examinations. Identifies high-risk children and those presenting signs of child abuse. May participate in Suicide Prevention, Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention, and Smoking Cessation programs. May participate in the Student Assistance Program, Child Study Team, individual education program meetings for exceptional students, Chapter 14 and 15 review teams, or provide information to these teams. Promotes a safe and healthy school environment. Plans with administrative, maintenance, and sanitation personnel for environmental needs and advises on adjustments for physically challenged individuals. Plans and instructs personnel for first aid services. Directs health service staff to facilitate the school health program. Applies nursing theory and evidence-based practice for decision-making, and contributes to school nurse knowledge through needs assessments and research. Serves as a resource person to promote positive health and wellness behaviors for students and staff. May arrange or teach in-service programs for school personnel on first aid, emergency care procedures, and current health issues. Promotes safety practices within and outside school buildings, possibly serving on Safe School Committees. Assists in budget preparation by advising the school administrator on health program and facility needs. Qualifications Current PA Registered Nurse license Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) Education Specialist certification by PA Department of Education CPR/AED certification Background/experience preferred in pediatric nursing, community health nursing, critical care nursing, medical-surgical nursing, or emergency room nursing Knowledge of current Child Abuse Law Required Act 48 continuing education for Nursing license and Education Specialist II Certificate Required State and Federal clearances #J-18808-Ljbffr
