Pay as Cross Country posts it: about $3,147 a week in all, a taxable rate of $36.16 an hour plus $1,267 a week in housing and meal stipends.

Job Summary

Neuro Step Down Nurse - Night Shift – located in a healthcare facility within the WVU system. This role involves providing specialized care for neuroscience patients, including stroke, seizure, craniotomy, and epilepsy monitoring units, within a high-acuity setting.

• Position Description:

Unit notes specify that candidates must meet submission requirements, including EPIC experience and compliance with COVID vaccination policies. The unit comprises 31 beds, including 25 stepdown and 6 epilepsy monitoring beds, with patient ratios of 1:3 for stepdown and 1:5-6 for epilepsy monitoring. This role involves caring for higher acuity neuroscience patients, including EVDs, TPA post-procedure patients, strokes, seizures, and craniotomies.

• Required Qualifications:

Certifications in BLS and NIHSS are required. There must be a minimum of 2 years of experience working with neuroscience patients, and candidates must have overall strong neuro experience, including NIHSS certification at the time of submission. Experience with stroke patient care, titrating drips (with physician orders), and familiarity with common titratable, set-rate drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, and others preferred.

• Schedule:

Night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, 3 shifts per week, totaling a minimum of 48 hours per week. Individuals must be flexible to work weekends, holidays, and potentially some floating to other units.

• Additional Information:
• RNs are required to have at least 2 years of experience in a neuro setting.
• The unit operates 24/7 with a charge nurse/house supervisor available around the clock.
• RN team composition includes 4 nurse aides per shift with ratios of 1:8-9. RT support is available 24/7, managing floor vents; RN's are not required to have vent experience.
• Tour includes unit-specific orientation (2 shifts), and charting is performed via EPIC.
• License to submit applicants is required, and candidates should be willing to wait for licensure if currently obtaining it.
