Vice President Membership Communications

As part of its 2026–2029 strategic plan, the client is creating a senior leadership position, Vice President, Membership ; Communications. This role is focused on recalibrating the organization’s membership and communications function by leading efforts to grow and retain membership, deepen relationships with physicians across the region, and expand the organization’s reach and relevance within the physician community. The Vice President will serve as a trusted, visible point of contact for physicians and will help translate ideas into actionable strategies using data to improve outcomes. The Vice President will own the full membership lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, retention, and re-engagement, and will lead engagement strategy for key physician audiences such as women physicians, early-career physicians, independent physicians, residents, and medical students. The role will oversee membership-focused governance groups, manage the annual program and event portfolio (including strategic oversight of an awards program), and direct member communications and marketing across email, web, social, and publication. Working closely with the Executive Director and supporting content and production for a member publication, the Vice President will also serve as a primary staff partner to an affiliated state-level medical society on membership and physician engagement activities, including support for coordination related to a house of delegates. The Vice President will supervise and develop one team member and establish annual goals, budgets, and performance reporting for the membership and communications function. The role typically requires 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in membership, physician relations, communications, association management, healthcare engagement, or nonprofit leadership, along with a track record of supervising staff and managing budgets strategically. Candidates should have strong relationship-building skills combined with writing, project management, and organizational abilities, and be comfortable using data and AI tools to inform decisions; a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is expected. The position is hybrid, with three days in the office and two remote days, and includes occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekend commitments related to physician events, plus limited local travel.
