We’re seeking a warm, patient, and reliable Companion Volunteer for an older adult living at Brookdale West Seattle who would truly benefit from friendly, consistent social visits.

About the Participant

This participant is a kind, thoughtful gentleman with a rich personal history:

• Lives with mild dementia and may repeat stories from time to time.
• Has a history of depression and tends to isolate in his apartment.
• Used to live in rural New Hampshire and was a master potter alongside his late wife.
• Enjoyed spending time in nature but doesn’t get outdoors much these days.
• Loves sharing stories about his family , reflecting on his life, and talking about whatever YouTube rabbit hole he’s been exploring lately.
• Thrives with calm, one‑on‑one, unhurried conversation.

Your presence can bring connection, routine, and joy into his week.

Volunteer Role

As a Companion Volunteer, you will:

• Visit in person during afternoons or early evenings.
• Offer companionship, warm conversation, and active listening.
• Encourage gentle social engagement to help reduce isolation.
• Enjoy chats about pottery, nature, family stories, or interesting YouTube finds.
• Share moments of calm presence—no special skills required, just kindness.

Ideal Volunteer

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Patient, friendly, and grounding
• Comfortable with mild memory repetition
• A good conversationalist—or simply a good listener
• Dependable and able to visit regularly
• Open to reflective or nostalgic conversations

Experience with dementia is helpful but not required —we provide support and guidance.
