Title: Sr. Dr. Client Tax Services

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Compensation: $160-200k

Position Summary

This is the operational and technical backbone of our clients brand-new Tax Services division. You will own client delivery, lead a small team, and drive high-quality compliance and advisory work while the practice scales at speed.

Reporting to the VP of Tax Services and partnering closely with senior leadership, this role is for someone who wants real ownership. Someone ready to dig in, build from the ground up, and make things happen. You will help shape pricing, the service model, workflows, technology decisions, and the first wave of clients. Do it well and the path to VP is clear.

This is not a corporate tax seat. We need a hands-on leader who has grown a tax practice or book serving SMB and mid-market business owners ($1M–$100M). Big-company Head of Tax experience rarely translates here.

About the Opportunity

Our Client partners with business owners to scale companies and build generational wealth. We already serve an active ecosystem of 500–600 clients and host roughly 150 events a year where tax consistently ranks as a top need. Demand is real and leads are plentiful.

The Tax Services practice is just being built. There is no existing headcount and no fully defined pricing or delivery model. You will create it alongside leadership that moves fast and expects results. Year-one target: $5–8M in practice revenue.

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

• Clear progress toward the $5–8M revenue goal

• Pricing, service packages, and delivery processes designed and running

• First 75–100+ clients onboarded and retained with strong satisfaction

• Clean, on-time compliance with zero regulatory issues

• A small team that is coached, accountable, and improving

• Practical systems and technology choices that can scale

• Meaningful contribution to clients’ “build, scale, exit” outcomes

Key Responsibilities

Client Delivery & Advisory

• Own and review tax compliance and advisory work for SMB and mid-market clients

• Lead practical tax strategy conversations around entity structuring, pass-through taxation, liability reduction, and transactions

• Serve as the go-to advisor clients trust and call first

• Spot and deliver planning opportunities that create real, measurable value

Practice Building & Operations

• Design pricing, service offerings, engagement processes, and workflows from scratch

• Choose and implement the tax software and supporting tools (you own the decision; budget is available)

• Run day-to-day execution — deadlines, quality, capacity, and continuous improvement

• Document what works so the practice can grow without chaos

Team Leadership

• Hire, coach, and develop a small team of tax professionals

• Stay close to the work while elevating others

• Set clear standards and hold the team (and yourself) to them

Growth Support

• Convert event and ecosystem leads into clients

• Identify expansion opportunities inside existing relationships

• Partner with leadership on practice strategy and momentum

Technology & Efficiency

• Comfortable using modern tools (including AI such as Claude) to move faster and smarter

• Operate inside the existing stack (Asana, Slack, Google Workspace) while building the tax layer

Ideal Profile

Required

• 5+ years progressive tax experience (public accounting or tax advisory firm strongly preferred)

• At least 2 years supervising and developing people

• Deep technical strength in business and individual compliance, entity structuring, pass-through taxation, and transactional advisory for $1M–$100M businesses

• Proven ability to own a client portfolio and grow a practice or book of business

• Strong orientation to SMB and mid-market founder-led companies

• High personal drive, intellectual curiosity, and the willingness to roll up sleeves and build

• Fully onsite in Scottsdale, AZ (relocation support possible for the right person)

Strongly Preferred

• CPA license

• Experience building or meaningfully scaling a tax practice or agency

• Bookkeeping experience (could expand the scope of this role)

• Comfort selecting and implementing tax technology
