Sorting Room Worker Category: Sorting Room Worker – Family Store Location Odessa, TX 810 E. 11th Street 79761, 810 E. 11th Street, Odessa, Texas, United States of America Job Summary Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the store and sorting room area. Responsibilities Sorting Room Responsibilities (50%) Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition; selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing; discards items in accordance with established procedures. Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures; hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks. Packs items in boxes and marks boxes accordingly; assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area; lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store. Prepares non-suitable clothes for the baler. Sorting Room Orderliness and Cleanliness Responsibilities (50%) Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas. Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customers have handled. Cleans all display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner. Other Responsibilities Inspects donated items to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures. Assists customers in carrying purchased/donated items in/out of the store. Performs other duties as assigned. Materials and Equipment Hand Truck General Office Equipment Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Required High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred. One year experience working in a warehouse preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Physical Requirements Ability to meet attendance requirements; read, write and communicate English language effectively; perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing; duties are usually performed standing; moderate physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying light to heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.). Working Conditions Work is performed in a normal warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather and noise, dust, dirt, and other environmental factors. #J-18808-Ljbffr
