Position: Neuro Stepdown Nurse

Shift Information

Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Neuro Stepdown Nurse who is comfortable managing a patient ratio between 1:3 and 1:5. In this role, you will provide essential care to patients in a stepdown unit with a focus on telemetry and neurological conditions.

Qualifications

• Active California RN License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Stepdown or Telemetry Unit
• Prior travel experience is preferred
• Acute care nursing experience in a combination unit managing both stepdown and telemetry patients is required
• Experience with charge nursing is preferred

Skills and Competencies

• Accessing and managing ports
• Management of BiPAP/CPAP
• Blood product administration
• Central line care and management
• Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
• Post-operative care for cranial surgeries
• Management of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA)
• Feeding tube care and management
• IV insulin protocols
• High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management
• Telemetry monitoring (both unit and remote)
• Tracheostomy care

Unit Details

• Patient Age Groups: Adults and Geriatrics
• Daily Census: 29 patients
• Number of Beds: 30
• Staffing Ratio: Stepdown patients - 3:1; Telemetry patients - 4:1
• Interdisciplinary support from various specialties including IV teams, physical therapy, and pharmacy

Scheduling and Availability

• Every other weekend commitment required
• On-call shifts as needed

Compliance and Orientation

• Must complete required onboarding labs within 3-5 days of contract signing
• 7-Year work history verification is mandatory
• Participants must fulfill orientation requirements, which may include modules
