Packaging Engineer

Job TitleESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Design & Development:Work in conjunction with commercialization and production to design, develop and commercialize packaging solutions and optimizations that meet customer, consumer and operational needsServe as technical packaging leader on cross functional project teamsLead packaging projects from concept to production launch, managing timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communicationPresent design concepts, improvements, and test results to clients and internal teams via digital presentations and meetingsPrototyping & Testing:Qualify new packaging materials, run line trials / pilots, and assist in equipment validation regarding packaging compatibilityAggressively drive and identify gross margin improvement projects through the optimization of primary and secondary package design / re-design. Report cost savings initiatives on packaging related projectsPerform quantitative and qualitative analyses to support continuous improvement programs in the manufacturing processes through the redesign of packaging componentsHelp build and maintain intellectual property landscape with regards to packagingDemonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems that ariseDrive and implement continuous improvement throughout the organizationManage assigned workload through effective time management, planning, and coordination of projects to ensure that the required deadlines are metSpecifications & Documentation:Develop and maintain packaging specifications, BOMs, and engineering change orders in ERP systems; review and approve technical drawings and specification documentsCreate and revise packaging specifications, bill of materials, pallet patterns and testing protocols to support manufacturingUnderstand basic supplier manufacturing processes including plastic molding, flexible materials and secondary carton / corrugateMaintain knowledge of the developments and trends in packaging for possible applications with the company’s present and future productsParticipate in industry organizations and maintain knowledge of emerging technologies, trends and best practicesProvide technical expertise to Quality Assurance to solve packaging related quality issuesHelp establish and/or refine Packaging Engineering & Innovation processes and SOP’sRegulatory Compliance: Ensure packaging meets industry standards and sustainability goalsQUALIFICATIONS:Demonstrated skill of working on project teams to drive results in a fast-paced environmentHighly organized, self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adapt well to change and able to prioritize multiple projectsCreative thinker with a passion for innovationBroad understanding of the fundamentals of Packaging DevelopmentStrong communication skills and ability to work with various levels of an organizationSense of urgency to solve problems and complete tasks; looks beyond obvious and seeks input from multiple sourcesConsiders options and willingness to carry parallel paths forward early in projectAbility and desire to cooperate, collaborate and partner with othersDemonstrates transparency, openness and integrity when working with othersEffectively adjusts to changes and deals effectively with uncertainties in the work environmentAbility to generate new and valuable ideas and solutions to difficult problemsAdvanced PC skills: Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, Specifications systems and TOPS/CAPEExperience with Microsoft Project or similar software desired.Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionallyREQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s required in Packaging Science, Engineering or related fields5-8+ years in Package Engineering Innovation for Consumer Goods and/or Nutraceutical productsEqual Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
