Engineering Technician IV with CDL-A (Part-Time, On-Call)

Position Overview Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a Department of Defense contractor specializing in range operations and maintenance, weapons testing, facilities management, and cybersecurity. The position is Non-Exempt, Part‑Time On‑Call (PTOC) located at Fort Irwin, CA . Pay is $31.31 per hour plus overtime. The role supports unit rotation schedules with up to ten (10) rotations per year for approximately 1,500 hours of work, often at double‑time rates. A typical PTOC technician earns over $60,000 working less than 100 days a year. Responsibilities Provide support during test events on military ranges, following military protocol and standard operating procedures. Operate and reposition military vehicles, including trucks, all over the range (requires a CDL‑A license). Apply technical knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and computer systems to support operations and routine maintenance on EW & Radar systems and peripheral equipment. Set up, operate, and tear down EW & Radar systems at remote locations during test missions. Cross‑utilize into other positions within the scope of work. Work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment of military test events. The Engineering Technician IV performs assignments that are not fully standardized, selects or adapts procedures or equipment, and works independently with supervision as needed. Work Conditions Work is primarily outdoors; temperatures and weather vary throughout the year. Physical requirements: 45% standing, 25% walking, 20% sitting, 5% reaching, 5% lifting, 10% crouching in tight spaces; able to lift 50–100 pounds. Position requires availability for all shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks. Exposure to loud noises, live gun fire, and other hazardous conditions may occur. Requirements High School diploma or equivalent. CDL‑A driver license. Electrical and/or mechanical system maintenance and repair experience. Experience with maintenance supervision, planning, or leadership is helpful. RF maintenance and repair, and radar operation experience are pluses. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, network/computer operations & maintenance. Ability to obtain a Forklift Operator license. Experience with data entry and storage device use (USB, CDs, hard drives). Strong working knowledge of hand tools and technician diagnostic equipment. Prior technician experience in mechanics, electrical, communications, or hydraulic/pneumatic repair is a plus. Current driver’s license and ability to be insured under company vehicle policy. U.S. citizenship required; must obtain and maintain a DoD Security Secret clearance prior to start.
