MEDICAL ASSISTANT

Medical Assistant

Under the supervision of a licensed physician, the Medical Assistant (MA) works as part of a multidisciplinary care team to support both clinical and administrative functions and contribute to the continuity of care to the patient. The MA works collaboratively with physicians, nurses and administrative staff in the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care and in the Specialty Clinics.

Typical duties include obtaining medical history, vital signs, preparing patient rooms for medical visits, assisting with clerical and administrative duties, performing laboratory procedures, assisting with physical exams and minor surgical procedures, administering medications and immunizations, providing first aid, and maintaining clinical equipment.

Minimum qualifications include completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or five years of recent full-time professional Medical Assistant experience, certification as a Medical Assistant, and CPR certification.

Preferred qualifications include one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related clinical capacity within a healthcare environment.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics include familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, working knowledge of medical terminology, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and emergency response skills.

Working conditions include exposure to various hazards of patient care and adherence to hospital and department specific safety requirements.
