Job expectations include consistently looking for opportunities to improve the reliability and efficiency of implementing the services, and influencing a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.We are seeking a highly experienced Senior CockroachDB Engineer to lead the design, engineering, build automation Bank's CockroachDB Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform. This individual will be responsible for building a secure, scalable, highly available, and automated database platform on the Bank's internal infrastructure while establishing engineering standards and best practices for enterprise-wide adoption.Responsibilities:Serves as a consultant on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomesDevelops software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes and contributes to the technology strategy for end-to-end engineering solutions and provides feedback to the architecture teamsTranslates business requirements into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks for deployment in compliance with architecture standards and policiesParticipates in various steering committees for technical and infrastructure service domainsLeads the evaluation of reference models, blueprints and playbooks to ensure they are fit for purposeMentors and guides team members to ensure system design technology solutions comply with enterprise system design and engineering standardsCreates an inclusive and healthy working environment and help to resolve organizational impediments/blockersLead the architecture, design, and implementation of the CockroachDB DBaaS platform deployed within the Bank's internal infrastructure.Build automation and self-service capabilities that enable rapid, standardized provisioning of CockroachDB clusters.Design and implement high availability (active-active), fault-tolerant, and multi-region database architectures.Establish engineering standards, reference architectures, operational procedures, and best practices for secure, scalable, and compliant CockroachDB deployments.Drive platform reliability and operational excellence through monitoring, observability, performance tuning, capacity planning, failover automation, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.Define and implement lifecycle management processes for cluster provisioning, upgrades, patching, scaling, and decommissioning.Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CockroachDB related initiatives .Evaluate emerging technologies and continuously improve the platform architecture, automation, and operational model.Required Qualifications:Extensive hands-on experience with CockroachDB on Linux platforms.Strong expertise with Ansible automation frameworks.Proven experience designing and operating large-scale distributed database platforms in enterprise environments.Be able to design and implement end-to-end distributed database architectures using CockroachDB with a focus on:High Availability (HA)Fault ToleranceMulti-Region DeploymentsActive-Active ConfigurationsDevelop automation solutions for:VM-based provisioningCluster deployment and configurationLifecycle managementVersion upgrades and patchingHorizontal and vertical scalingImplement automated monitoring, alerting, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities for CockroachDB environments.Strong expertise in Ansible playbooks, roles, and automation frameworks.Implement enterprise-grade security controls, including:TLS encryptionCertificate lifecycle managementVault integrationKey Management as a Service (KMaaS) integrationDeep understanding of distributed systems concepts, including:Consensus protocolsReplicationQuorumFailover and recovery mechanismsExperience integrating database automation with CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitHub, or similar platforms.Ability to define engineering standards, operational best practices, reference architectures, and governance models for enterprise database platforms.Desired Qualifications: Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices is a plusExperience with deploying CockroachDB on AWS public cloud is a plusSkills:AdaptabilityBusiness AcumenProduction SupportSolution DesignStakeholder ManagementAutomationInfluenceInnovative ThinkingSolution Delivery ProcessTechnical Strategy DevelopmentMS SQL ServerTerraformAnsibleShift:1st shift (United States of America)Hours Per Week: 40SummaryLocation: Plano; CharlotteType: Full time
